what is matter

What is matter?

Everything we see, touch, taste, and smell is matter. Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space.

The most common and simple definition of matter is given as anything which has “Mass” and occupies “Volume” or “Space”. This is also understood in general terms as the substance of which all physical objects are made. These substances are mainly recognized and distinguished from other by their physical and chemical properties.. These definitions are however changing and getting modified with the development and evolution of new theories like quantum mechanics and wave theories in modern science. As per the atomic theory all the matters are made up of atoms and molecules which constitute a substance with unique properties.

Matter has three states solid, liquid and gas and changing the matter from one of these state to another by any physical or chemical change like pressure, evaporation, sublimation, freezing gives us idea about matter chemistry.

1. Solid is that state of matter that has definite size, and volume. It is the rugged state of matter

2. Liquid is the state of method that has definite volume but it does not definite shape. Its shape changes from vessel to vessel in which it resides.

3. Gas is that space of matter which does not have definite volume, shape. It occupies the whole volume of the container.

All three states are important to determine what is matter chemistry.

In our next blog we shall learn about isotherm

I hope the above explanation was useful.Keep reading and leave your comments.
